2nd Annual Friday Harbor Film Festival – November 7-9

friday harbor film festival Last year, cinema buffs descended on our little island from all over the region for the inaugural Friday Harbor Film Festival. The theme was the Pacific Ocean and its Rim, with films about island cultures, marine ecology, environmental issues, great adventures and individuals who live and work near the world’s largest ocean. Many of the showings were accompanied by discussion panels with the directors and stars of the films, a very exciting thing to happen in Friday Harbor. My personal highlight was to see the now famous Blackfish for the first time, followed by an incredibly stimulating Q&A that had passionate opinions flying around the room.

This year’s festival will focus on the same theme, “Stories of the Pacific Rim.” Last year’s festival was a huge hit, with many of the films being sold out and getting rave reviews in local papers. The Journal named it one of the top 10 stories of 2013. You can donate now to help make the 2014 festival a success. Contributors of $300 or $500 will receive one or two All-Access Film Festival Passes with admission to all films, priority seating, plus admission to the special opening night soiree for film-makers, their guests, and event sponsors.
