My name is Caylie and I am the newest employee of the Tucker House Inn, Harrison Houses Suites, and Coho Restaurant, part of the San Juan Island Inn Collection. Something special about me is that I just moved to Friday Harbor, almost two weeks ago, all the way from Michigan. Hi, Mom! Anywho, as a newcomer to the islands, I am looking forward to learning more about Friday Harbor and the rest of San Juan Islands. I can’t wait to explore!
During my trip to San Juan Island, my first plane had to be rerouted back to Grand Rapids from Chicago due to fog. I missed all of my flights for the rest of the day! After all of the morning madness, I would like to thank all of the airlines and airports for the hospitality and service, especially Kenmore Air.
This was my first Kenmore Air experience. I had the pleasure of taking a scenic float plane ride to Friday Harbor. The aerial views of the Seattle area to the islands were beautiful. It was a perfect day to fly.
As soon as I stepped off the plane and began to walk the docks, I felt like I stepped onto a movie set. You know, the cutesy small towns that give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Everything was so pretty and lovely. Everything and everyone presented a friendly, welcoming environment. It was as if you were coming home to visit family and friends you haven’t seen in a while.
Within my first few days, I learned a lot about the town and many things that you can do when you visit. Here are a couple of my tips to get you started:
- 1. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
This isn’t a joke. The San Juan Islands are made up of a series of hills. There is so much that you will want to see and do, if you aren’t properly prepared, it’s going to be a long trip.
- 2. The weather is cooler here. Not as much rain.
You see, being from the Midwest, I am prepared for all different types of weather changes to happen in a single day, typically really hot or super chilly. Spring in Michigan is a temperamental time of year. When I moved to the Pacific Northwest, I expected lots and lots of rain. But here in Friday Harbor, we have 1/3 of the rain that the Seattle area receives! It is a lot cooler here; it’s a comfortable temperature that is perfect for sailing and being out on a whale watching adventure.
So as you are planning your trip to come stay with us, here at the Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites, I would like you to take a virtual trip with me before your arrival! I’ll be setting out on many travels all over the islands. So come along – just you, me, and my selfie stick. I plan on going kayaking, biking and so much more! Maybe even get a little whale watching. You know, Orca whales are big here. The possibilities are endless.
My hope is to provide you ideas and tips to make your stay emorable and enjoyable. Having you along for my journey makes it even better.
