La Danse et La Musique – February 8

la-danse_dAfter its successful premiere in 2013, La Danse et La Musiquereturns with vocal favorites and more live dance performances.

The golden voice of Daniels Recital Hall in Seattle, Angela K. Morgan, will sing opera along with Mary Lou Mills, who has performed with Opera Pacifica of Olympia and Seattle’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

Event director Lina Downes, founder of San Juan Island’s youth ballet dance company, La Danse de la Mer ( the dance of the sea) has created an original romantic fantasy ballet for the evening, featuring the music of Frederic Chopin and Strauss. Northwest professional ballet dancers, brothers Sylvain and Danny Boulet (who have each performed internationally), will take on feature roles as well as ballerina Caitlin Ross, formerly of New York, Jeanne Peihl, originally from Riverside Ballet in California, and young islander Joely Loucks.

Ballet Folklorico Monarca, with members from San Juan Island, will perform with the dance company as well. Performance artist Cynthia Church will share a moving art piece set to part of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony; choreographed by Lina, it also features Shannon Kelly and Fiona Small.
