Season of Change

Stephanie Prima-Sarantopulos

Stephanie Prima-SarantopulosWe write often about the seasons in our blogs and newsletters. This is due in part to the fact that the foods we serve our guests are locally grown, so we are very much in touch with the seasonal crops. But it’s also because here on San Juan Island, we are much more connected to nature than many people on the mainland. Within fifteen minutes from anywhere on the island, we can be at the beach, the mountain top, or deep in the forest. This relationship with Mother Nature spills into our daily lives, offering comfort and peace when needed, and a sense of awareness.

Just as with the earth, we have seasons of our lives: early growth, maturity, winding down. Now, coming into Fall and Winter, I find it is time for me to wind down, time for a change.

So I will be finishing up my stint at the Inns and Coho soon. The decision to leave was difficult; we have a wonderful staff whom I care for very much, and I have enjoyed keeping our readers informed of what’s happening on the island. For over three years I have invested myself in these businesses, treating them as my own, and I am proud of the progress we’ve made in the quality and services we offer our guests. But it’s been much too long since I’ve seen my boat Musetta after leaving her in dry storage in Grenada five years ago. It’s time for a long vacation and new adventures.

If you’d like to reach me, I’ll still respond to for a short while longer, to wrap things up; if it’s a personal message, you can send it to me at Starting this week, you’ll be hearing from a new blogger, Libby Baldwin, who offers a fresh “new-comer’s” look at San Juan Island.

Thank you for your support and interest in my work. I hope you will all welcome the seasons, and find the courage to embrace change as it’s needed. As Eckhart Tolle said, “Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.”
