Strawberries are ripe and ready for picking! We are so lucky to have a chef’s garden right outside the Garden Cafe’s door full of delicious strawberries, edible flowers, greens and herbs. This year our strawberry crop has been bountiful and extra sweet. We have been hard at work picking, hulling, freezing and creating delicious recipes using strawberries – trifle, strawberry short cake, cheesecakes garnished with strawberries, strawberry rhubarb cobbler, and even a wedding cake, garnished with strawberries.
Wenda, our innkeeper and head gardener, at Tucker House and Harrison House started amending the soil last fall with chicken manure. She also uses natural remedies to keep slugs and other insects away from our strawberries. It is working! We have an over abundance of strawberries and plenty extra to freeze for winter. Congrats Wenda on an amazingly, delicious harvest!
Come stay with us at the Tucker House and sample some of our mouthwatering strawberry desserts!
