Ever feel like you are traveling with all the contents of your house? Have you ever packed your whole wardrobe and only wore two outfits? Have you seen the kid in the airport with his small backpack, then looked down at your oversized roller suitcase, that has rolled over your toes ten times and thought…he’s got it figured out? When you are suffering from a suitcase bigger than you are, we want to help! The Tucker House innkeepers have suggestions for your packing woes and will cure you of your oversized luggage!

Rick Steves, a renowned traveler and writer offers great advice on how to pack light and have everything that you need. Packing light enhances your experiences of the places you visit because you are not bogged down by huge luggage. How amazing would it be to step off the plane or train and get right to sight seeing, without having to find your Bed and Breakfast dragging an enormous suitcase behind you? Check out Rick Steve’s tips for packing light.

If you are thinking that you still need a lot of stuff when you are traveling try a packing method that has worked great for other travelers. It’s called bundling. You can still bring many outfits, but packing using bundling saves a tremendous amount of space. Also the type of bag that you choose is crucial. The huge quad rollers are very popular, but not practical for traveling, unless you can hire your own private driver and porter to help you with your luggage. Here are some bundling techniques and tips.

Traveling for different climates can be challenging. When visiting the San Juans in the summer, it can be hot enough for shorts and a tank top during the day, but a jacket or sweater is definitely needed in the evening and don’t get me started about if you go out on the water! You might need a scarf, jacket, sweater and hat! So, how do you pack all that for one trip? The key is layering. You change your base layer daily and use the same jacket, instead of packing 4 different ones. Learn more about layering for your next trip.
