By Courtney Oldwyn published on January 8, 2017

Are you into fashion but also enjoy a great deal on clothing? Check out out two consignment shops. Second Act Consignment and Girlfriends Consignment are locally owned and operated second hand shops in downtown Friday Harbor. Both places offer gently used women and men’s clothes, shoes and accessories at great prices.

You will find Second Act in a historic building on Second Street. This friendly, family owned shop has been an island staple for islanders since it opened. Owner Karrie and her staff only accept clothes, shoes and accessories that are clean, pressed and in great shape. You can be sure to find a few treasures here. Don’t miss their new housewares section!

Located in an old house also on Nichols street Funk and Junk is full of everything old and fascinating from furniture, dish-ware, books, musical instruments, art, jewelry, nautical items and more.

The Firefighters Association Thrift House

This is the San Juan Island’s true thrift shop and is our version of Goodwill. Located on Mullis Street, the Thrift House serves a much needed purpose here on the island by accepting local’s used items. They sell everything at bare bottom prices and provide much needed local jobs. Here you can find men, women’s and children’s clothing. They also have books, housewares of all kinds, shoes, yard equipment, pet supplies, games and more. There is an entire separate building full of used furniture. If you happen to be a puzzle lover this is the best place on the island to find used puzzles. They typically cost $1-$3 and the staff checks to make sure all the pieces are included!

Community Treasures

Community Treasures thrift store and recycling is a true trash to treasure kind of place! It is a few miles from Friday Harbor along Roche Harbor road. This 501 C3 public charity provides much needed appliances, building supplies and other types of recycling to islanders. It is also a one stop shop for just about every type of used items you could ever dream of. Women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and shoes, toys, shelves and shelves of books, kitchen supplies and cookware, sports equipment, gardening and lawn items, electronics, furniture and loads of building and construction scraps and supplies abound.

If you enjoy spending a couple hours digging around an eclectic mix of things Community Treasures is one stop you do not want to miss. If you’re an animal lover or traveling with children make sure to ask at the register desk if “Little Girl” the tamed, friendly deer who lives on the property is around!
