Second Act Consignment Boutique

By Jennifer Furber published on May 12, 2017

Located in the blue Masonic Lodge for the last 18 years, Second Act is the sort of consignment boutique where I never leave empty handed. It specializes in “Island casual”, a blend of practical attire mixed with on-trend fashions. Mostly supported by locals, Second Act offers both women’s and men’s fashion, home décor, and gifts. There are racks and racks of today’s hottest trends with elements on the casual side of life. I’ve purchased everything from vintage designer dresses to current jeans and tops recently spotted in the shops of Downtown Seattle. And who can forget the hilarious assortment ugly holiday sweaters for December’s Island-popular white elephant parties!

What’s Kerrie’s Story?second act consignment owner

Like the individually selected and showcased clothing that all has a story to tell, owner Kerrie King has a true islander past. Kerrie is a 2nd generation retailer who follows in her mother’s fashion footsteps. She began in retail as a 16-year-old on Spring Street in the off-fishing season. Kerrie began as a commercial salmon fisherman at thirteen years old until she was thirty years old, fishing the salmon banks of SE Alaska. At forty, she began offshore albacore fishing. She’s used to catching the big deals and it’s evident in her selective nature for what she decides to carry on her shelves.

Second Act began in 1981 before consignment really exploded as the norm in the late 1990s. In 1990, Kerrie bought the business realizing that commercial fishing kept her away too much from her then, 15 year old daughter. A land job was of high importance, instead of just passing her time with retail off-season. This line of work became an immediate, sustainable and enjoyable business. She now splits her time between Apache Junction, Arizona and Friday Harbor, Washington.

Feel like a True Islander

Second Act feels local and family-minded. It’s a welcoming place to buy or sell recycled clothing. It promotes fun with a rack sparkly attire for playing dress up for Island celebrations and dinner parties. There are eclectic shoe options and collections of costume, handmade and vintage jewelry. Second Act overflows with style and is always season specific.

Where is it Relative to the Tucker House?

Second Act is just a few blocks from the Tucker House Inn which is part of the San Juan Island Inn Collection. It is located at 15 2nd Street N, in Friday Harbor, Washington. It is open Monday – Saturday, 10am – 5:30pm, Sundays 11am – 4 pm. If you’re walking from the Tucker House, head down Harrison Street until it turns into 1st Street. Then, go uphill on Spring Street and take a right on 2nd Street. It’s the big blue building across from the courthouse.
