The Bean Cafe: Voted Best Latte by the Journal of the San Juan’s!
Want to cap off your morning, advance your afternoon or enhance your evening? Try a cup of Tony’s Organic Fair Trade coffee with a flourish of foam! Artistically designed steamed milk toppings dance across the top of your cup, depicting hearts, trees or pleasing geometric designs. Add a scrumptious cookie or pastry to give your attitude an adjustment. Let me introduce you to one of my favorite java joints-The Bean Cafe.
Eric, the owner extraordinaire, is a mui bueno fella. His personal touch of friendliness is the first clue that this coffee haven is, well, coffee heaven. Delicious, robust, yet creamy, these lattes are among the best I’ve ever had.
The Bean Cafe is located at 150B 1st Street right next to Pelindaba Lavender Shop or up the wooden steps from the ferry parking lot. Open from 7am to 5pm, lattes aren’t the only fare. Order up a croissant sandwich or delicious quiche with your espresso. Lunches feature sandwiches like Black Forest Ham and Swiss on Focaccia bread or Spinach and Portabella Mushrooms Salad. Had your fill of caffeine? Add an Italian soda, beer or wine to your order.
Need to do some work on your computer? Bring your laptop for the free Wi-Fi. Before you depart, consider trying some Smoked Sea Salt Caramels or homemade fudge. Why you can even order boxed lunches for that bike ride, kayak excursion, or lunch at South Beach or Deadman’s Cove.
Trust me on this one, you won’t go wrong!
San Juan Coffee Roasting Company
San Juan Coffee Roasting at 18 Cannery Landing is another, not to be missed, island hot spot. For twenty-eight years, Irene and Steve have built a reputation for their home-roasted, delicious coffee. Upon entrance to the store, an intoxicating aroma will fill your nose. Savor the scent as you peruse the menus and delight your senses.
Bring some of their beans home with you for your friends and family to relish. If you want to order online, you can do that too. They even roast a special blend just for us and our Coho Restaurant so you can purchase some right from the inns.
Hand-made chocolates were added to the shop’s repertoire several years ago. A vast selection of these tempting treats line up in ordered rows. Decorated with squiggles or swirls, they beckon to you. Try just one and you’ll be hooked! I promise. Chocolatiers in Bellingham, Port Townsend and Chehalis craft these dark beauties and send them along carefully packed to Irene.
As if that were not enough, don’t miss the corner of cooling, ice cream choices. Half a dozen flavors of Cascade Glacier Ice Cream made in Eugene, Oregon command that post. Rotating flavors like Birthday Cake, Huckleberry Heaven and Wild Mountain Blackberry might catch your eye.
You can find San Juan Coffee Roasting at the end of the boardwalk next to where the ferry docks. Their business hours are 9 am to 5 pm every day.
Just a Stroll Away
So while you’re staying with us at the Tucker House Inn, take some time to grab a coffee – or maybe more – and stroll through the heart of Friday Harbor. You will not regret it! Or, you can just enjoy our special blend of San Juan Roasting Company coffee right from the comfort of your suite.
