New Brews on the Island

Your Local Island Brewery

The opening of the San Juan Island Brewing Company on July 27th was the most anticipated start to a business in 2017. The brewery opened its doors within a year of breaking ground. Now stands a gathering place for both islanders and tourists alike who value craft beer. Additionally, the convenient location makes it an easy walk to the Tucker House Inn and  Harrison House Suites.

The interior aesthetic relies on an open design with industrial elements, reminiscent of pacific northwest style. However the large wood beams and accents are locally sourced and create a homey feel to the interior. The pub offers incredible pizza fired on a wood stone pizza oven created locally in Bellingham, Washington. With daily-made crusts, even a gluten-free option, the San Juan Island Brewing Company’s pub offers a refined dining experience. Classic kid-friendly menu options, with a vegan selection coming soon, make dining enjoyable. Upon request, a detailed menu of ingredients will advise customers with various food sensitivities. The SJI Brewing Company also offers a full bar with wine, non-alcoholic drink selections and gluten-free cider on draft.  It is family friendly and a comfortable place to catch up with friends.

The Brewmaster

Jesse Visciglia is the Head Brewer at The Brew Company. After graduating, he moved to the island in 2007 with a background in industrial microbiology and public education. Specializing in secondary science and biology, Visciglia has always had an interest in science applied to industry. As an avid cook, recipe formulation paired well with his history in homebrew. A self-proclaimed craft beer advocate, Visciglia specializes in small batch, locally produced beer.

Visciglia brings a commitment to craft, science and formulation of beer to San Juan Island. With training from UC Davis in Brewing Science and Bellingham internship experience at both Elysian Brewing and Kulshan Brewery, The Brewery currently has twelve bulk offering brews, with eight that are core year-round beers. The San Juan Island Brewing Company specializes in classic brews that pair well with food: english ales, german lagers, and American IPAs. The modern American styles maintain an island theme in names like Afterglow Golden Ale, named for the McMillin Mausoleum, and Lane 4 Vienna Lager, named for the historic San Juan Island ferry lane in Anacortes.

Happenings All Week!

In conclusion, regular specialty activities make The Brewery a favorite hangout spot. For example, there’s Trivia Night on Wednesdays and Live Music on Fridays. Plus, Thursday’s Game Night feature board games, a Mario Kart tournament, or even bingo. Happy Hour is from 4-6 pm, while Sunday offers all-day Happy Hour with $4/pints and 10%-off appetizers. Tuesdays welcome discounted growler fills. Check locally to see the specific deals and activities for the week. The San Juan Island Brewing Company is open Tuesday – Sunday, 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM.
