Everything You Need to Know About Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm

If you’re looking for a great, scenic place to visit in the San Juan Islands during your stay at Tucker House Inn, consider a trip to the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm. This is an ideal combination of cute, fluffy animals and beautiful nature in a peaceful setting. While exploring the San Juan Islands, you will find some great scenic and historic sites. These include the Pelindaba Lavender Farm and American and English Camp on San Juan Island. However, this great combination of alpacas and an 80-acre farm with mountain and meadow views is unmatched. Here are just a few things about the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm that you will love during your visit!

Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm and Country Store

The Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm is paired with a country store that includes many alpaca-fiber-based items, from sweaters to sofa throws, with scarves and socks in between. You can secure your very own alpaca coat in anticipation of the winter months. The Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm country store includes a special reversible coat that blends baby alpaca and wool for a soft yet warm and lightweight coat with pockets, a hood, and toggle buttons. These come in several color combinations! There is both women’s wear and men’s wear available at the shop.

There are also some great toys, such as alpaca-fiber teddy bears! These bears are incredibly soft- unlike any teddy bear you’ve held before! They make great souvenirs or presents to bring back home to friends and family. There are also some adorable alpaca stuffed animals available for purchase! In addition, another great souvenir or gift idea is a pair of alpaca slippers or socks. The slippers can be worn fur-in or fur-out and are as fluffy and soft as can be. A premier pair of socks features the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm name on the foot, while other thick, warm, colored pairs are available. You can also find some yarn in the gift shop from one of the alpacas outside! You can select which alpaca you would like your yarn to come from and then go say hello outside in the pasture!

The Alpacas!

The Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm boasts the largest herd of alpacas in the San Juans. The farm is simply a must-see stop during your visit, with these fluffy creatures roaming the 80-acre land. The farm’s ever-growing herd includes over 70 alpacas who enjoy the gentle slopes and sunny pastures, along with the shade of 100-year-old oak trees. These cute cousins of the llama are Huacaya alpacas, which comprise about 90 percent of the world’s alpacas. You will get to visit with these adorable creatures during your stop and see where some of your gift shop items come from!

Alpaca fiber is so incredibly soft, known as the finest wool and much stronger than sheep wool. It is over 5 times as warm and comes in 22 natural colors, the widest range of any animal in the world! It is quite luxurious, boasting the same quality as cashmere. Also, unlike llamas, alpacas are much more gentle and intelligent, rarely spitting at people unless they are provoked. You will hear their soft humming sound, which is an indication of uncertainty, or a sharp series of barks when they are alarming the herd of danger.

After a Trip to the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm

You will get to see these beautiful alpacas firsthand during your visit to the Krystal Acres Alpaca Farm. Then, after watching the alpacas and shopping at the country store, explore the rest of the San Juan Islands. There are so many great outdoor activities to participate in on and around the island.
