Melodious Notes over the Harbor: A San Juan Islanders Chamber Music Concert – March 15

Melodius_Notes_2013_dAfter two highly successful concerts that wowed the Whittier audiences, clarinetist Sue Collado has again gathered a diverse group of island musicians for a one-of-a-kind classical concert.

Since moving to the island from California three years ago, Sue (former Principal Clarinetist of the La Jolla Symphony) set out to uncover the many island musical talents she’d heard so much about. For this edition of Melodious Notes, Sue is happy to collaborate with pianists Dorothy Baker, Carol Hooper, Grisha Krivchenia and Sonja Zarek; flutist Pam Stewart; bassoonist Pat Nelson and cellist Sasha von Dassow.

Sue’s goal has been to create a “not your typical” chamber concert that presents a  variety of what she calls “unique bites of great music.”   The program this time around expands the horizons to include works by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Chabrier, Piazzola, Tchaikovsky and Dutilleaux.  Plus, our own island composers-Richard Hieronymus and Grisha Krivchenia- will have their works presented.

“The musicians have had so much fun doing this,” said Sue.  “Our island audiences have been so loving and appreciative!”
