It’s Pod Nod time! Pod Nods are overnight learning adventures for kids ages 6 to 12. They spend the night at The Whale Museum with adult supervisors and participate in games, art and science projects, and a bedtime movie, all designed to teach and instill a sense of stewardship for whales and the marine environment.
Children will receive a bedtime snack and breakfast as well as a certificate and gift for participating.
These popular “pajama party” sleepovers in the Museum for children ages 6 to 10 will be held on July 27th and August 16th. New this summer is a special advanced Pod Nod on August 10th for children ages 8 to 12!
Pod Nods are led by Museum Educators with assistance from other adult professionals. Youth participants will learn to value whales and their environment through art projects, science labs, music, games, and the traditional flashlight tour of the Exhibit Hall. We promise a high adult/child ratio and a whale of a good time!
Each date will focus on a different theme. During ‘Myths and Legends’ on July 27th participants will learn about some of the fun and interesting native myths surrounding our marine neighbors. On August 10th children ages 8 to 12 will learn what lives ‘Under the Salish Sea’. They will have the chance to take part in a fun ‘pier peer’ where they will search for marine animals after dark at the Friday Harbor Marina using an underwater light. The theme for August 16th is ‘All About Orcas’ where participants learn about our local orca pods and celebrate the birthdays of baby whales from J and L Pods. Each Pod Nod will begin at 6:30 PM with pick-up the next morning at 8:30 AM. A bedtime snack and breakfast are included.
The cost for each Pod Nod is $39 for children/grandchildren of Whale Museum members. The cost for non-members is $49 per Pod Nod. Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis.
