10 of the Best Restaurants in Friday Harbor

Coho Restaurant

Pacific Northwest dining with a Mediterranean flair is available at the Tucker House Inn’s very own Coho Restaurant. The menus are created around the seasonality of fresh ingredients in the San Juan Islands, and special dinners are available throughout the year. Small plates include Grilled Octopus and Housemade Burrata, while some entree favorites are the Pacific Snapper and Grilled Meyers Ranch Beef Tenderloin served with parmesan mashed potatoes. Coho’s wine cellar is not to be overlooked, recognized with an Award of Excellence five years in a row by Wine Spectator, and you can follow up your wining and dining with an Italian Cannoli.

Backdoor Kitchen

The multi-ethnic menus of Backdoor Kitchen in Friday Harbor are a step away from the typical seafood fare and onto a more international palate. Start off with a Corn Masa Cake or Mediterranean Faro Salad before indulging in the Vietnamese Duck and Prawn Platter or East Indian Vegetarian Platter.

Tops’l Sushi Bar

Friday Harbor food can be delectable from fully-cooked local catches to sushi options. Tops’l Sushi Bar’s Spicy Tuna Wanton is a favorite from the sea, while Udon Noodles and Seaweed Salad are lovely land-grown plates. The star sushi rolls include tuna, yellow tail, bay scallop, and rainbow with fresh crab.

San Juan Island Cheese

San Juan Island Cheese is the area’s wine and cheese bistro, featuring a cut-to-order cheese counter and beers and wines from the Pacific Northwest. The World Board or Charcuterie Board are sure to satisfy, while hot sandwiches such as the Pastrami on Dark Rye and High Seas Smoked Tuna Melt are more full-bodied options. Bite boxes are also available for shipping, so you can send some of your San Juan Islands experience back home or order one later when you’re missing your vacation.

Market Chef

This delicious deli is a great spot to pop in for lunch, featuring gourmet sandwiches that will satisfy the hunger you built up from exploring Friday Harbor. The deli case will impress with freshly made sandwiches and ingredients. Options include the Italian sub with prosciutto, Genoa salami, Pepperjack cheese, marinated red onion, lettuce and a cherry pepper, and olive relish as well as Tanja’s favorite roasted veggie bisque with rustic croutons.

The Place

With an unmatchable waterfront setting overlooking the harbor, The Place is situated in one of the best locations in Friday Harbor. This romantic restaurant not only has incredible views but delicious Northwestern cuisine to rival its peers. The Place uses local produce, seafood from sustainable fisheries, and locally roasted coffee. Though the prices are a little high, with entrees like Pacific Rim Bouillabaisse, Roasted Puget Sound Oysters, and Black Bean Ravioli with Shrimp, the cuisine is mouthwatering.

Duck Soup Inn

The seasonal menu at the Duck Soup Inn boasts the freshest local ingredients around. Some starter appearances include Wild Nettle Pancakes with farmers cheese, spring asparagus, fennel, fresh morels and Weathervane Scallops with sweet pea semifreddo, preserved lemon, verjus, and crackers. Main courses include the Heirloom Grains Bowl with grains, spring vegetable, kimchi, nori, fried tofu, and soft cooked egg as well as the Jones Family Farm Pork Cutlet with pork shoulder, nettle dumplings, rhubarb salad, mustard seed, and pan sauce. Wines and cocktails can be paired with your dish in this cozy cabin in the woods setting.

Cask & Schooner

Known for their stout spiked chicken sandwiches, Cask & Schooner is a local favorite of restaurants in Friday Harbor. Options include comfort foods such as hand-battered Cod fish and chips, housemade biscuits and gravy, and bagners and mash. Mussels and clams are also on the menu under “In the Shell,” while crispy roasted cauliflower and chickpea and local kale saute are small plate options. The late happy hour from 9-11 p.m. is great for a night out on the town!

Vinny’s Ristorante

One of the highest rated Italian restaurants in Friday Harbor is Vinny’s Ristorante, A Calamari Caesar Salad will start things off, followed by options that include a Basil Pesto Quinoa Cake, Prosciutto Wrapped Roasted Prawns, and Slow Roasted Tomato Bruschetta. The pasta varieties are delectable, from Duck and Bacon Sausage Ragu to a Vegetable Brodetto Rigatoni.

The Bluff

Seasonal specialties and lite fare are available at The Bluff, one of the premier restaurants in Friday Harbor overlooking the harbor. Along with their altering lite fare, the Bluff Restaurant in Friday Harbor also has dessert wines to indulge in alongside a cheese plate or cobbler.

Then Rest Before Breakfast

So, whether you decide to drive downtown, head to the harbor, or stay right here at Tucker House Inn for your dinner, some delicious food awaits!
