October

Fall is our favorite time here on the San Juan Islands. The island takes on a bit of quiet, and magical afternoon light dapples the fields at the peak of the harvest. It’s the perfect time of year to be outdoors and exploring the beautiful nature all around the San Juan Islands. The crisp, cool air makes those firelit evenings even more magical.

Food

Food is definitely the focus at Savor the San Juans, and Coho Restaurant will be participating! There will be two Coho Restaurant events, the Oktoberfest Beer Dinner and Mellisoni Vineyards Winemaker’s Dinner. There will be many restaurant and local food producer offerings to sample during the Savor the San Juans festival. Local seafood and meats in a garden setting are available at Backdoor Kitchen, while local gastropub fare overlooking the harbor is available at Cask & Schooner.

Farms

If food is the star of the show, then farms are the stagehands making sure everything happens behind the scenes. Savor the San Juans focuses on local food- the produce and products growing right here in the San Juan Islands! Thus, there are several activities that feature San Juan Islands farms. More information on these specific events is to come on the official website!

Art

History and art fall under the cultural aspect of Savor the San Juans. Events include the Heritage Harvest Festival at the Orcas Island Historical Museum and the Historic Friday Harbor Guided Walking Tour. Other artistic endeavors at the Savor the San Juans event are the Know Your Farmer Photo Exhibit and Wild and Scenic Film Festival. The Roche Harbor Pioneer Cemetery Tour is another creepy favorite. Some of these fun events extend all the way into November!

Other Festivities

Savor the San Juans wouldn’t be a complete celebration without a parade! The Friday Harbor Fall Farm Parade will include floats and festivities. There will also be a Fall Festival and Haunted Hayride in true Halloween fashion. FALLfest in the Park in Friday Harbor is another favorite, along with the BAT-tacular (Almost) Full Moon Hike!
