Treat Mom to a Weekend She Will Never Forget

By Shelley Sharp

The first special woman in almost everyone’s life is their mother, so on May 12, show how much you appreciate all this incredible woman has done for you by treating her to a Mother’s Day weekend getaway in Friday Harbor. And, to help make planning easy, we’ve compiled the perfect itinerary and some islandy gift ideas that will make any mom happy.

Your Guide to a Memorable Mother’s Day:
A Weekend Itinerary

Saturday

Catch the 9:30am ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor on Saturday morning to get an early start with mom. You will arrive at 10:30am with plenty of time for fun outings and activities. Reserve your spot in advance on the Washington State Ferries Website. Additional times for spring sailings can be found here.

Drop your bags and/or car off at the Tucker House Inn or Harrison House Suites prior to check and make a hand’s free walk into town. Reserve your room, suite or cottage soon for best selection. Consider adding the Girlfriend’s Getaway Package or in-room massage treatments for a weekend of pampering pleasures.

Have a late breakfast or lite lunch at one of Friday Harbor’s charming restaurants. Within just a few short blocks from the Inn you will find Cafe Demeter, the San Juan Bistro (formally San Juan Island Cheese), and the Spring Street Deli.

Walk through the San Juan Island Farmers Market and pick up a treat, along with artisan foods from local farms and food vendors: take home gifts of baked goodies, flatbread, cheese, fruit, soaps, herbal treatments, jewelry, clothing, and art from our wonderful community of growers, bakers, and artists.

Wander into an island restaurant or coffee shop. Find a seat with a view for some girl talk over a glass of wine, iced tea, or java drink.

Check in to your room at the Tucker or Harrison House to take a relaxing bath in your jetted indoor or outdoor tub before heading out to dinner at Coho Restaurant. Make your reservations early…online booking here.

Sunday

Start your morning with a lovely breakfast in the Garden Room Cafe or delivered right to your suite or cottage. There’s no better way to wake up to Mother’s Day than a freshly prepared morning meal from Chef Jessica.

Take a drive to Pelindaba Lavender farm to wander through early blooming fields planted with over a dozen varieties of this fragrant flower. Pick up a gift for mom in the gift shop and sample the ice cream.

Attend the 2pm matinee performance of The Drowsy Chaperone at San Juan Island Community Theatre. This Tony Award winning Broadway musical will delight you both and leave you lighthearted. Book your tickets in advance on their website.

Stop by the Friday Harbor House for a glass of wine on their deck before heading back to your room to change for dinner.

Attend the Mother’s Day Pop-Up Dinner in the Inn’s Room Cafe. Created by Chefs Tim & Ryan with mom in mind, the meal ($55 per guest) starts at 6pm and will include a thoughtful four-course farm-to-fork dinner with optional wine pairings for an additional charge. Seating is limited so book early. See the menu here. Dietary restrictions and food allergies can be accommodated with one week advance notice.

Retire to your suite tired, satisfied and happy. Surprise mom with a gift bag of signature bath items from her stay at the San Juan Island Inn Collection. What mom wouldn’t want to bring home our body wash, lotion, and soaps? Check out our Tucker House Take-Me-Away Gift Basket here. Our beautiful hand-turned pottery mugs (in brand new colors for 2019) also make a nice memento.

After enjoying at meal at one of the best Friday Harbor Restaurants, stay at our San Juan Island Bed and Breakfast and be treated to a delicious breakfast like this the next morning

Monday

Savor your last breakfast at the Inn before heading back on the 11:05am ferry to Anacortes. Make sure to take home a bag of our homemade granola and/or special morning blend from San Juan Coffee Roasting Company.
