History of Westcott Bay Cider
Westcott Bay is a landmark feature of San Juan Island, originally named to honor a British naval war hero. Located on the Northwest side of this historic bay, Westcott Bay Cider is one of many old orchards in the region dating back to the 1870s. During this time, San Juan Island was a major fruit producing area for Puget Sound. The original orchard was later replanted in the mid-1990s. The first cider was then crafted in 1999, and Westcott Bay Cider added new partners, such as San Juan Island Distillery, in 2010.
Westcott Bay Cider Beverages
At Westcott Bay Cider, you will discover three different traditional ciders for tasting and purchasing. The “Very Dry” option is a bone dry cider with a crisp flavor and splash of effervescence. It takes the place of a dry white wine when making food pairings. The “Dry” cider is a full-bodied bittersweet beverage with a hint of sweetness. Meanwhile, the “Medium Sweet” cider is a great, sweet option to serve with fruit and cheese.
Westcott Bay Cider + San Juan Island Distillery
During your visit to Westcott Bay Cider, you will discover award-winning ciders as well as some great spirits from San Juan Island Distillery. A great collaboration is formed among these two great island producers. One of the best collaborative drinks you will discover is the Westcott Bay Cider Pommeau. This cider-based aperitif is made with fresh apple juice and San Juan Distillery’s Apple Eau de Vie. After aging in white oak barrels, the result is this delicious drink!
