Now that the holidays have come and gone, what is your ideal start to the new year? If you’re looking for the chance to reset and recharge, the San Juan Islands just might be the perfect destination. Whether you’re considering a solo trip, a romantic getaway, or the perfect family vacation, the Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites can accommodate you. Our innkeepers are ready to answer all your questions and book your stay over the phone, or you can explore our accommodations and amenities and book your getaway online.

When ultimate relaxation is the goal, what’s better than breakfast in bed? As part of your stay, a hot breakfast entree will be delivered to your door each morning. And then the day is yours! To help get your planning started, we’ve got four suggestions for recharging in the San Juan Islands…

South Beach in Winter

1. Take a long walk on the beach.

Taking a walk along any of the beaches on San Juan Island will leave you feeling grounded. South Beach and Fourth of July Beach are two of our favorite sandy walks. Be sure to keep an eye out for beach glass while you stroll! Breathing in the ocean air allows our bodies to naturally decompress, making it easier to disengage with everyday worries and allow the stresses of the world to melt away. Take even a few moments if not hours to sit by the water and breathe in the ocean air. It will do wonders for your mental health. The San Juan Islands have sun almost every day, even in the winter months. Make time each day during your stay to soak up as much Vitamin D as possible.

2. Unplug from your electronics.

Turn off all your electronic devices and dive into the book you’ve been wanting to read but never seem to get to. Or walk a few blocks into town to Griffin Bay Bookstore. Griffin Bay offers a wide selection, so you’re sure to find a perfect match for yourself. While you’re at it, pick up a few greeting cards as well and handwrite notes to a few friends! We don’t normally have the luxury of unplugging from the rest of the world. Your retreat on San Juan Island will be a good chance. Once you get into the island spirit, you won’t think about emails, texts, or phone calls. This is the perfect vacation destination that is close enough but far enough away to allow you to completely unwind. Once you get on the ferry, breathe in the fresh sea air, and take in the sights, you won’t even think about checking on your messages. The natural beauty will overtake everything else.

3. Spend a leisurely morning in bed.

Enjoy a leisurely morning in your suite at The Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites. Don’t worry about waking up early or feeling rushed out the door. Take your time sipping your coffee or tea and savoring breakfast in bed. When you’re done, slip into a warm and relaxing lavender bubble bath. After your bath, put on your bathrobe and turn on the fireplace. Take time to t connect with your loved one. Talk about the upcoming year and your individual goals as well as those you’ll tackle as a couple. Dream about the places you’d like to travel to and what lifestyle changes you would like to make so that you’ll live a long and happy life together.

Young Hill views

4. Hike through the nature all around us.

Hiking up Mt. Young is an excellent way to get your adrenaline and blood flowing while enjoying the island’s beautiful forested landscapes. Once you reach to the top, you are rewarded with a stunning 360° view of the San Juan Islands and Salish Sea. Take a moment to sit beneath the Madrona tree and breathe in the fresh air. If you are hiking around lunchtime, pack snacks or lunch for a beautiful picnic at this breathtaking destination. As you head back down the hill, take in the nature around you and make sure to keep an eye out for bald eagles and other birds flying overhead.

At The Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites, we strive to make everything as easy as possible for you so that you can fully relax and recharge. We are happy to help plan your trip and recommend our favorite beaches, walks, and best spots to just sit and relax in nature. Let us help so you return home ready for the new year.
