San Juan Islands Kayaking
See the sea from sea level!
The San Juan Islands are a world-class kayaking destination. Kayaking on San Juan Island waterways offers abundant wildlife, protected marine sanctuaries on many of the outer islands, quiet coves and inlets, and dramatic scenery. Imagine the solitude and serenity of paddling the Salish Sea with a Bald Eagle circling slowly overhead. Ask our concierge to recommend a tour operator and expedition to fit your experience level and itinerary. Several of our preferred operators offer three-hour trips for families, beginner paddlers, and for those trying to squeeze a lot into their pacific northwest holiday. There are all-day trips that offer the promise of seeing whales and multi-day overnight trips that keep you out on the water for up to ten days. Then return to the Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites to plug back into civilization and tell us all about everything you’ve experienced.
Our kayaking outfitter partners include Crystal Seas Kayaking, San Juan Outfitters, Outdoor Odysseys, Discovery Sea Kayaks, Sea Quest, and San Juan Kayak Expeditions. We recommend that our guests enjoy kayaking trips that leave from Roche Harbor or San Juan County Park. Our partner operators offer transportation to and from the launch site from downtown Friday Harbor, a few blocks from the inn. Some operators offer kayaking rentals if you prefer a self-guided tour.
UPDATE: In 2020, the inn’s bicycles will be available beginning in Phase 3. Thank you for your understanding. The Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites also have complimentary sea kayaks for experienced paddlers. The waters around the island are challenging enough to allow you a sense of accomplishment, yet plentiful enough to keep you exploring the vast array of wildlife that inhabit these waters. Our innkeepers will guide you to a number of kayak-friendly access points including San Juan County Park, Turn Point Park, Jackson Beach, and Roche Harbor.
For our guests on multi-night trips, we are pleased to store luggage or a vehicle while you are out on the water. Meeting an early morning kayaking expedition? No need to miss breakfast. Our chef will prepare a sack breakfast that you can enjoy on the go. Our guests appreciate the inn’s complimentary guest laundry to freshen up after their time on the water.
