By air or by sea. Those are the two ways to arrive in the San Juan Islands. The Friday Harbor Airport is the premier aviation destination in the islands, though there are smaller airports on surrounding islands. The Orcas Island Airport, Lopez Island Airport, and Roche Island Airport are other transportation services in the archipelago. Another route to the San Juan Islands is over the open ocean. The San Juan island Ferry is a popular way to arrive, offering a scenic and idyllic ride that will give you a first glimpse at the landscape awaiting. Whether by plane or ferry, you can watch for whale tails in the waters of Puget Sound and look out for the wings of bald eagles soaring by.
